Forest High School

Established in 1961, The Forest High School stands as a testament to community dedication. The Forest High School Promotion Committee, formed in 1958, tirelessly campaigned for a co-educational high school. They wanted to serve the educational needs of Frenchs Forest, Forestville, Beacon Hill, and Terrey Hills. The Forest High School first opened its doors on January 31, 1961. Initially, it had 318 students and 14 teachers. Mr. E.G. Bell, formerly the headmaster of Fairfield Boys’ High School, served as the first principal. The school’s motto, “Spectemur Agendo” which means “Let us be judged by our actions,” reflects the spirit of this institution. This motto was chosen by the very first students and staff. Even the school crest was designed by the school’s own art teacher. The school’s colors, green, red, and gold, symbolize growth, passion, and excellence. The Forest High School offers a diverse range of extracurricular activities, including a GATS program and a student representative council (SRC). The school has a strong music program, with award-winning bands, school productions, and various musical ensembles. The Forest High School has a rich history of sporting achievements. It has produced notable alumni who have excelled in various fields, including music, acting, politics, journalism, and sports. Among its famous alumni are members of the iconic Australian rock band INXS. Garry Gary Beers, Tim Farriss, and Kirk Pengilly all attended The Forest High School. The school’s location in Frenchs Forest, a suburb on Sydney’s northern beaches, provides a beautiful setting for learning and growth. The Forest High School continues to uphold its reputation for academic excellence, sporting achievements, and a harmonious multicultural community.
