Question: Ever heard of a Shaolin Kung Fu fighter making waves far beyond the Shandong Province? That’s the story of Yi Long Shek.

Yi Long Shek is not just a name. It represents a martial arts phenomenon. He is also known as One Dragon.

Liu Xingjun is the real name of Yi Long Shek. His journey began at 14. His father regaled him with tales of Chinese martial arts. Yi Long Shek decided to become a fighter. He is a proponent of traditional martial arts.

Yi Long Shek’s fight style is captivating. He often lowers his guard. He relies on his inner strength to withstand damage. In kickboxing he usually does not kick. Instead he attacks with western style boxing. This leaves him open to attacks.

His training is unconventional. Yi Long Shek trains Tai Chi and other martial arts. This is to prepare for Muay Thai matches. He also practices breathing techniques. He wears traditional Kung Fu attire. It consists of long yellow pants and a shaved head. This adds to his iconic style.

He fought Buakaw Banchamek in 2015. This Wu Lin Feng kickboxing promotion was billed as Fight of the Century. Yi Long Shek lost the decision to Banchamek.

Before facing Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee at YOKKAO 9 he admitted Sudsakorn was a very experienced and smart fighter. Yi Long Shek said he didn’t have a specific plan of attack. Sudsakorn won the bout. Yi Long Shek flailed punches for three rounds.

Yi Long Shek claims his training helps him control his weight. He also said that Shaolin Kung Fu and Muay Thai share much in common. Muay Thai excels in steel knees, iron elbows, and iron legs. Shaolin Kung Fu has iron fists, iron legs, and iron cloth. This means the body can defend against any attack.

Despite his fame, the Shaolin Temple disavowed Yi Long Shek in 2010. A spokesman stated he was not a Kung Fu monk of Shaolin Temple. Nor could he be called the No.1 Shaolin Kung Fu monk.

Born in Dezhou Shandong on April 1 1987 Yi Long Shek stands 1.76 meters tall. He weighs 80 kg. His styles include Shaolin Kung Fu Wing Chun Sanda Muay Thai and kickboxing. His record stands at 62 wins 13 losses and 1 draw.

Yi Long Shek has also ventured into film. He has appeared in movies like Copper Skin Iron Bone and Captain America Civil War.
