What would it have been like to be a writer in the late 19th century, seeking solace and inspiration within the walls of a charming villa? Right here, nestled amidst the tranquil neighborhood, stands Zeyerova vila, a silent witness to the creative spirit of one of Czech literature’s most notable figures.

The Zeyerova vila, built between 1860 and 1863, was more than just a house. It was a sanctuary for Julius Zeyer, a prominent Czech writer. He purchased the villa in 1862, seeking a peaceful retreat from the bustling city. It was within these very walls that Zeyer penned his renowned novel, “Vyšehrad”, drawing inspiration from the villa’s serene atmosphere.

Zeyer later sold the villa to Anna Lauermannová-Mikšová in 1897. However, he included a unique condition in the sale. Zeyer retained the right to live in a part of the villa. He wanted to continue to draw on its tranquil ambiance for his writing. He also stipulated that Lauermannová-Mikšová preserve his library and collection of antiquities, which he later bequeathed to the Náprstek Museum.

Today, Zeyerova vila stands as a testament to a bygone era. It whispers tales of literary pursuits and a deep connection between a writer and his inspirational haven. As you stand before this charming villa, let your imagination wander back to the time when Zeyer walked these grounds. Experience the quiet charm that fueled his creativity. Zeyerova vila, a place of quiet history, continues to inspire in the heart of Prague.
