“A village,” you say? No, Stanisławów Pierwszy is more than just that. It is a story etched in fields and flowing through canals.
Stanisławów Pierwszy sits in east-central Poland. It is near Nieporęt and Legionowo. Warsaw is not far to the north. This location places it at a crossroads of history and nature.
Imagine the early 19th century. Stanisławów Pierwszy was just a dream. Owners of Nieporęt estates signed a contract in 1824. This agreement brought German colonists of the Lutheran faith to the area. They settled amid the river Długiej’s backwaters. The village owes its name to Stanisław Potocki. He was the owner of the Nieporęt estates.
The colonists transformed the land. The river Czarna and the canal Królewski were rerouted. Former swamps became arable lands. Ludwik Stanisław Postawka engineered the first drainage plan. He was an engineer in the Royal Corps of Road and Bridge Construction. His work reshaped Stanisławów Pierwszy.
In 1827 Stanisławów Pierwszy had 72 residents and 28 houses. By 1880, the population grew to 420. A 1921 census showed 60 buildings and 372 inhabitants. The residents identified as Polish regardless of their religion.
World War I brought upheaval. Russian authorities deported residents into Russia’s interior. Then in 1940 villagers were displaced again. This time they were moved to the Reich as part of the Heim ins Reich action.
August 14, 1920 was a dark day. Soviet forces seized Stanisławów Pierwszy after breaking through Polish defenses. Fierce fighting in 1944 claimed many lives. At least 163 Soviet soldiers died here.
Yet life persisted. In 1997 the Parish of the Blessed Virgin Mary Help of Christians was established. A new church was consecrated in 2001. It became a spiritual anchor for the community.
Today Stanisławów Pierwszy is known for its natural environment. Valuable peat bog areas lie between the Słupecka Forest and the river Czarna. Protected birds thrive here. Cranes, lapwings, kestrels, and buzzards find refuge in the area.
Remember this village when you think of Poland. It changed its name from Stanisławów near Rembelszczyzna in 2002. Stanisławów Pierwszy embodies resilience. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of its people.
