“A unique adult learning environment.” Those words echoed in my mind as we approached St Marys Senior High School. This isn’t just any high school. It’s a place where students in years 11 and 12 prepare for the Higher School Certificate, the gateway to their futures. St Marys Senior High School, established in 1989, stands as the first senior high school of its kind in New South Wales, a testament to its innovative approach to education. It’s not just a school, but a bridge between secondary education and the university experience, blending the best of both worlds. St Marys Senior High School boasts a diverse student body of approximately 900 students, each with unique cultural backgrounds, educational experiences, and aspirations. The school fosters a positive commitment to learning among both students and staff. It offers a wide range of academic programs, from performing arts and hospitality to computer technology, preparing students for diverse career paths. In 2008, a student from St Marys Senior High School achieved first place in the Society and Culture HSC exam, a testament to the school’s academic rigor. In the same year, five students from the school were recognized on the Board of Studies All Rounders List. The school’s motto, “Mente Manuque” meaning “With Mind & Hand”, reflects its emphasis on both intellectual and practical learning.
