“Largest intelligent book storage system in China” sounds impressive. Today, we explore the Shenzhen Library North Hall, a true hi-tech landmark in Longhua District. Opened in December 2023, it’s Shenzhen’s newest cultural gem.

The Shenzhen Library North Hall stands out with its simple style. White diamond elements run throughout the building. Sunlight refracts creating layered geometric shadows. This makes the library attractive even from the outside. The Shenzhen Art Museum’s new venue is right next door. Both were designed by KSP Jürgen Engel Architects and Zhubo Design Firm.

Inside the Shenzhen Library North Hall, you will see a vast space. The library covers about 72000 square meters. That’s equivalent to about 7.5 Hong Kong Central Libraries. The building has six floors above ground and three underground. It can store 8 million books and has 2500 seats.

As you enter the library, notice the six-story Wall of Books. It surrounds the atrium, creating a stunning visual. The open design allows sunlight to flood the atrium. This makes the reading environment bright and comfortable.

The Shenzhen Library North Hall has many functional areas. These include learning rooms, exhibition halls and digital labs. You can attend lectures and seminars here. There are also stamp collecting areas.

The library’s intelligent stereo book stack is a major highlight. People call it the “magic book collection cabinet.” This automated system is located on the third underground floor. It covers 3000 square meters. That’s about the size of seven basketball courts. It can hold over 4 million books. This is China’s largest underground stereo book stack.

Imagine 70000 blue boxes filled with books on shelves. These shelves are 18 meters high. When someone orders a book, a robotic arm retrieves it. The scene resembles the “Space Elevator” from “The Wandering Earth”.

Books travel to workstations via intelligent systems. Staff register the books. Then, the books are sent to the correct floor. You can reserve a book and receive it in just 10 minutes.

Visit the Shenzhen Library North Hall on weekends to see the book stack. Bookings are essential. This hi-tech library offers an unforgettable experience. It combines knowledge with cutting-edge technology.
