Completed in 1927, Nishiki Bridge stands as a testament to Tokyo’s resilience after the Great Kanto Earthquake. Nishiki Bridge gracefully arches over the Nihonbashi River, connecting Kanda Nishikicho and Otemachi. Its name, Nishiki, meaning “two colors,” is derived from the nearby Nishiki district, once home to two samurai residences. This steel, concrete, balanced open-spandrel arch bridge replaced an earlier structure. It became a symbol of recovery and progress. Nishiki Bridge quickly became a vital artery for the city’s traffic. The broad roadway accommodates two lanes of traffic in each direction. Below, the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line runs, further enhancing its connectivity. Imagine standing on Nishiki Bridge, gazing down at the river flowing beneath. The Metropolitan Expressway’s elevated spans loom overhead. It’s a blend of old and new. You can almost feel the pulse of Tokyo. Nishiki Bridge isn’t just a crossing. It’s a meeting point of past and present. In 2007, the Chiyoda City government recognized Nishiki Bridge as a significant landmark. This designation highlights its historical and cultural importance. Nishiki Bridge is more than just a bridge. It’s a thread in the rich tapestry of Tokyo’s story.
