Founded in 1926 the New Bethel Progressive Missionary Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith and resilience. Rev G J Martin a visionary leader saw a need for a church in Belmont Heights. He along with six dedicated members established the church on Lindell Avenue. The early years weren’t easy. The church faced many challenges. One major setback was a devastating fire in 1930 that completely destroyed their building. Undeterred the congregation secured another building on 36th Avenue. They continued their ministry. Through the decades many pastors served New Bethel. Each leader guided the congregation. Each leader contributed to its growth. Rev L R Stancil had an especially long tenure. He served for 44 years until his passing in 1992. His legacy continues to inspire the community. The church’s journey wasn’t always smooth. There were periods of transition and change. The search for a new pastor sometimes lasted months or even years. But through it all the unwavering faith of the members persevered. In 2002 Rev Reginal T Webb became pastor. Under his leadership New Bethel experienced significant growth. The construction of the Family Life Center in 2003 was a remarkable achievement. It showed the community’s commitment. The construction of a new sanctuary in 2019 further demonstrated this commitment. It showcases New Bethel’s enduring spirit. New Bethel Progressive Missionary Baptist Church remains a vital part of Tampa. It’s a place of worship a beacon of hope. It’s a place where generations have found spiritual solace. Today the church continues its mission. It serves the community. It shares God’s love. The legacy of faith and perseverance lives on within its walls. The New Bethel family stands strong.
