Olney Square Park consists of three parcels. They face Bowie Mill Road and sit on either side of Gelding Lane. These parcels were acquired in 1970, 1975, and 1980. They total 23 acres.
This park offers something for everyone. There are two playgrounds for children. A large multipurpose field allows for various activities. Two tennis courts invite friendly competition. A picnic shelter provides a perfect spot for gatherings. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the basketball court.

In Spring 2017, Montgomery Parks started a renovation project. The aim was to improve stormwater runoff. The plan included removing the parking lot and other hard surface areas. This was located at Gelding Lane. It allowed for reforestation.
The community was asked for input. Residents expressed a need to improve play areas. They focused on the play area at Gelding Lane and Bowie Mill. The community did not favor removing the basketball court.
Parks staff reviewed the comments. They improved both play areas. Staff reinforced the play equipment. They replaced broken items at both play areas. New wood chips were installed at the smaller play lot. This made them useful and safe again.
It was decided not to remove the basketball court. It will be left in place. It will enter the renovation cycle for repairs. The parking lot will be removed as planned. More work is planned for the area in the future.
