A soaring spire pierces the Stuttgart sky. That’s the Christus-Ku00f6nig Kirche in Vaihingen. Its presence commands attention. This isn’t just any church. It’s a testament to faith resilience and architectural innovation.

Built between the World Wars a time of immense hardship the Christus-Ku00f6nig Kirche stands as a symbol of hope. Designed by Alfred Schmidt one of Stuttgart’s leading architects it’s his first and arguably finest work. Ten churches were built based on his plans. This one however is special.

The church’s dimensions are impressive. Eighteen meters wide thirty-five meters long and sixteen and a half meters high. The unique Zollinger vault boasts a fourteen and a half meter span. It’s a marvel of engineering. The tower reaching thirty-three meters including the gilded cross. A true landmark in Vaihingen.

The interior is equally captivating. The original altar and pulpit are long gone but the building has been meticulously renovated over time. The church features a remarkable Albiez organ originally built for St Martin in Wangen im Allgu00e4u. It is a model organ meant to provide high-quality pipe organs to churches with smaller budgets. It’s a smart-aleck fact about the organ’s origins. Many artworks adorn the walls including the striking Christ the King mosaic at the entrance.

The Christus-Ku00f6nig Kirche wasn’t always surrounded by buildings. When it was consecrated in 1928 by Bishop Johannes Baptista Sproll it stood outside the Vaihingen center. Now it is surrounded by new developments and traffic. It shares its prominence with the Evangelical City Church and the town hall.

The church holds special significance as the first in the Diocese of Rottenburg to bear the title Christus-Ku00f6nig. It’s a title that perfectly encapsulates the church’s spirit and its enduring presence in the heart of Stuttgart. It stands as a symbol of faith hope and resilience. Today it is a treasured landmark. A place of worship and a testament to history. A must-see for any visitor to Stuttgart.
