What does Shap Pat Heung mean? It means eighteen villages in Cantonese. But wait for it, it expanded to thirty villages later.
Shap Pat Heung Au is an area in Hong Kong’s New Territories. It sits south of Yuen Long. Also, it is northeast of Tai Tong. The area fills the plain north of Tai Lam’s hills.
Administratively, Shap Pat Heung Au is part of the Yuen Long District. This area is known for its Tin Hau Festival. The festival happens on the 23rd day of the 3rd month of the Chinese calendar every year. Parades and Fa Pao draw crowds from other places. Visitors and pilgrims come to Shap Pat Heung Au for this special event.
Shap Pat Heung Au includes many villages. Tai Tong Tsuen is one. Shan Pui Tsuen is another. You will also find Tai Wai Tsuen here. Ha Yau Tin Tsuen and Sheung Yau Tin Tsuen are part of it, too. Plus, there is Tai Kiu Tsuen. Muk Kiu Tau Tsuen is also in Shap Pat Heung Au.

Kong Tau Tsuen and Tong Tau Po Tsuen are here too. Yeung Uk Tsuen and Tsoi Uk Tsuen are also part of Shap Pat Heung Au. Finally, Tai Kei Leng, Shan Pui Chung Hau Tsuen, Shung Ching San Tsuen and Lung Tin Tsuen complete the list. Shap Pat Heung Au consists of many villages. It started as eighteen and grew.
Shap Pat Heung is in Primary One Admission School Net 74. Within this net, there are aided schools. These schools operate independently. But the government provides funding. One government school exists here. It is Yuen Long Government Primary School.
Shap Pat Heung North is a constituency. It exists in the Yuen Long District Council. Created in 2019, it returns one district councillor. Elections occur every four years. Shap Pat Heung North covers the northern part of Shap Pat Heung. In 2019, its population was about 14,251.
