How about a story about a place that embodies connection? I will tell you about Cocolia Tama Center. It is a shopping center that strives to be the heart of Tama Center connecting people and the community.
Cocolia Tama Center stands proudly in front of Tama Center Station. Its name tells a story. “Coco” means “this place” in Japanese. “Lia” comes from Spanish. It means “tie” or “bond with the community”. The name Cocolia represents the shopping center’s aim. It wants to be a central place that strengthens community bonds.
Let’s step back to understand Cocolia Tama Center’s history. The building once housed a department store called Tama Sogo. It opened in 1989. Sadly it closed in 2000. Later in 2000 Tama Center Mitsukoshi and Otsuka Kagu moved in. The New Urban Center Development Co took over management of the sixth-floor restaurant area. A decade later in 2010 Otsuka Kagu closed.
In April 2011 Cocolia Tama Center was born. It replaced the former Otsuka Kagu space with specialty stores. This grand opening was initially planned for April 22. The Great East Japan Earthquake caused a one-day delay. UNIQLO Maruzen Bookstore and ABC-Mart were among the first stores.
Mitsukoshi Tama Center closed on March 20 2017. Since its opening it had been a key tenant. The closure marked a turning point for Cocolia Tama Center.
Cocolia Tama Center has several floors. Each floor offers something different. The seventh floor features a futsal field a multipurpose hall and childcare facilities. You can find restaurants culture and services on the sixth floor. Furniture and general goods are on the fifth floor. Fashion interior goods and services are on the fourth floor. The third and second floors are dedicated to fashion. The first floor offers fashion interior goods services cafes and sweets. In the basement you find food sweets a food court fashion and services.
Cocolia Tama Center also has a parking area. It is part of the Tama Center area joint parking system. There are six locations managed by Times 24.
