Mistelbach’s history stretches back to ancient times. The area has been inhabited since the Neolithic Age. People were drawn to its fertile soils and convenient streams. In 1868, Mistelbach became the district capital. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in its history. A railway line was completed a year later. This boosted the region’s growth. In 1874, Emperor Franz Joseph I elevated Mistelbach to a city.

In 1972, Mistelbach merged with several neighboring communities. Ebendorf, Eibesthal, and Frättingsdorf joined Mistelbach. Hdrersdorf, Hüttendorf, Kettlasbrunn, Lanzendorf, Paasdorf and Siebenhirten also joined. These unions created a larger and more diverse municipality.
Mistelbach faced tough times in 1866. The Prussian army brought cholera to Lower Austria. This caused many deaths. In April 1945, the area around Mistelbach was hit hard during the battle for Vienna. The Red Army buried 918 fallen soldiers in Mistelbach.
