Founded in 2006, The Siena School started with a clear mission. The Siena School was created to be one of the nation’s finest schools. It would serve bright students who learn differently. The Siena School was first located at Montgomery Hills Baptist Church. This was along Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, MD.
By 2012, The Siena School expanded. It served grades 4 to 12. In 2013, the school moved to Forest Glen Road. In 2021, a second campus opened in Oakton, Virginia. A satellite campus in Silver Spring opened in 2024.
Why the name “Siena?” The school is named after Siena, Italy. This is to emphasize its focus on the arts. St. Catherine of Siena is the school’s patron saint. She did not learn to read until later in life. She often used accommodations like dictation.
The Siena School’s mission is clear. It prepares college-bound students with learning differences. These include dyslexia. The school helps them become confident learners. They gain tools to excel.
The Siena School enrolls about 150 students. These students have mild to moderate language-based learning needs. They have average or above-average abilities. The Siena School staff is highly trained. They use specific instructional strategies. These strategies help students with learning needs.
The Siena School is accredited. The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools accredits it. The school is a member of several associations. These include the National Association of Independent Schools.
The Siena School offers a college preparatory program. It uses multisensory and experiential curriculum programs. Students prepare for college. They work with an onsite college counselor. They prepare for internships and ACT testing.
