Built in 1958-59 Bergshamraskolan stands proudly. It’s a testament to a time when Solna expanded. The school sits on land once belonging to the Sveden farm. Bergshamraskolan wasn’t always a school. The area has a rich history. Farms like Bergshamra Sveden and Stocksundstorp stood here. Gustav Vasa’s land registers mention Bergshamra farm in the 1530s. It was later part of Ulriksdal’s royal estate. Queen Hedvig Eleonora even leased it to Samuel Barck in 1707. King Karl XV used the farm for experimental agriculture. He built summer houses for friends in the southern part. The main building was even called the Russian Villa. The original building was demolished in 1930. New structures rose for the Central Seed Testing Institute and the Institute for Animal Breeding. In 1947 Solna bought land to build a new neighborhood. Bergshamraskolan became a vital part of this growth. The school’s original design is quite different from the later Bergshamra center. The school initially included a high school. However that closed in 2021. It’s planned to reopen in 2025. This time focusing on math science and health. Bergshamraskolan continues to serve the community. It’s near Bergshamra IP and Svedenbadet. The proximity to nature Edsviken and Ulriksdal’s castle park makes it a special place. Bergshamraskolan is more than just a building. It’s a symbol of Solna’s past present and future. It’s a place where children learn grow and thrive.
