On December 15th 2002 a new train station opened its doors. This was not just any station. This was Wien Kaiserebersdorf station built on the grounds of the former Altes Bahnhofsgebäude Klein-Schwechat. The Altes Bahnhofsgebäude Klein-Schwechat had a long and storied history. It all began on May 3rd 1872. The Altes Bahnhofsgebäude Klein-Schwechat was born with the opening of the Donauländebahn railway line. The station changed hands a couple of times before becoming part of the Imperial Royal Austrian State Railways in 1909. The Altes Bahnhofsgebäude Klein-Schwechat was more than just a station.
