Remember the roar of the crowd as you approach Sollentunavallen. This is Sollentuna’s largest sports venue. It stands as a testament to athletic achievement and community spirit.
Sollentunavallen opened in 1969. The Swedish Athletics Championships marked its inauguration. Turebergs FK organized this event.
Imagine the athletes running on the track. The main field is a grass plan. Running tracks surround it. The stands can hold about 4500 spectators. Feel the energy of past competitions.
Helenelunds IK uses an artificial turf field next to the main pitch for bandy during winter. About 800 fans can gather here. Sollentunavallen also houses the municipality’s two ice rinks. These are used by teams and residents. A new ice rink opened on October 8, 2008. Sollentuna municipality decided to build it in early January 2007.
Sollentunavallen has hosted the Swedish Athletics Championships five times. These events occurred in 1969, 1971, 1995, 2006, and 2016. A Grand Prix in athletics also takes place here annually. The Swedish School Championships in athletics were held here from September 12-14, 2008.
Local politicians proposed building houses on the site in 2005. The location is near Edsviken bay. Local residents protested and the housing plans were dropped.
Construction of Sollentuna’s athletics hall began in September 2013. It was planned to be finished in 2015. Difficult ground conditions delayed the project. The hall finally opened on November 20, 2016. A skatepark was built nearby in 2009. It celebrated its 10th anniversary on September 21, 2019.
