Seventy-five years of stories reside within these grounds. This is KS Spójnia Warszawa. Founded in 1949 KS Spójnia has been a cornerstone of Warsaw’s sporting community. It stands proudly at Wybrzeże Gdyńskie 2.
KS Spójnia began as a merger. Spółdzielczy Klub Sportowy joined Robotniczy Klub Sportowy Marymont. The resulting club was named KS Spójnia-Marymont. Its home became the former site of Wojskowy Klub Sportowy Żoliborz. This location was scenic and sat beside the Vistula River.
The club’s early days saw it become part of Zrzeszenie Sportowe Spójnia. This was an organization for trade workers. The years 1954-57 marked a golden age. As Zrzeszenie Sportowe Sparta it became one of Poland’s largest sports clubs. Sparta excelled in both competitive sports and mass participation events. It also was active in non-competitive tourism. The club boasted 850 athletes and nearly 1500 beginners.
Reorganization struck in 1957. Zrzeszenie Sportowe Sparta was dissolved. Numerous sections moved to new structures. They changed their club colors in the process. A few years later KS Spójnia celebrated its 15th anniversary in 1963. Media coverage highlighted its famous athletes. These included Sidło Makomaski Kusiński Zieliński and Kapłaniak.
KS Spójnia merged with Robotniczy Klub Sportowy Rywal in 1950. The name Spójnia was adopted. The club then organized into 16 sections. Another reorganization in 1951 created Terenowe Koło Sportowe nr 1 Spójnia Warszawa. A fusion with Ogniwo followed three years later. This formed Zrzeszenie Sportowe Sparta. The new structure expanded to 23 sections.
The sports federations were eliminated in 1965. The club reverted to its original name. Sadly its assets were reduced. By its 25th anniversary in 1974 Spójnia-Marymont had only 14 sports sections.
Today KS Spójnia-Warszawa thrives. It has grown since Poland’s transformation. Besides its main location it has a kayak base on the Żerań Canal. There is also a sailing base in Nieporęt on Zegrzyńskie Lake. Training happens across six sections.
KS Spójnia proudly recognizes its Olympians. Władysław Zieliński Jerzy Górski and Daniela Walkowiak are among the 13 kayakers. Janusz Sidło Zbigniew Radziwonowicz and Elżbieta Krzesińska represent the seven track and field athletes. Tomasz Stańczyk Dominik Życki and Anna Weinzieher are among the four sailors. Andrzej Kłopotowski and Bernard Aluchna represent swimming.
KS Spójnia Warszawa continues to foster athletic talent. It provides training for all age groups. Its athletes compete at national and international levels. The club has five sports sections. These include sailing kayaking table tennis snowboarding and contract bridge. Here at KS Spójnia history meets the future. The legacy of sportsmanship and community endures.
