Aedas, a leading architectural firm, has been instrumental in designing airport buildings. They’ve recently won international competitions for airport designs. Shenzhen Airport Satellite Concourse is one. Hong Kong International Airport Third Runway Passenger Building is another. Aedas hopes to reinforce its growing influence in airport design.
Aedas is also working on the Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2 Expansion. They previously worked on Hong Kong International Airport Midfield Concourse. They also worked on the North Satellite Concourse.
The Third Runway Passenger Building is a project by Aedas. AECOM is the Lead Consultant and Engineer. OTC is the Aviation Planner. This new building will be 280000 square meters. It will be located north of Terminal 1. It will be south of the new third runway. An underground APM system will connect it to the expanded Terminal 2. The Third Runway Passenger Building, along with Terminal 2, can serve 30 million more passengers each year.
Shenzhen Airport Satellite Concourse was designed by GDAD, Aedas, and Landrum & Brown. It opened in December 2021. It is north of Terminal 3. It is a key step in expanding a major aviation hub.
The Satellite Concourse covers 238885 square meters. It can handle 22 million passengers per year. The Automated People Mover efficiently connects it with Terminal 3 and the future Terminal 2. Baggage handling and goods delivery systems are also connected.
Aedas Executive Director Albert Tong said the goal is functionality and flexibility. The overarching goal is a seamless travel experience focusing on passengers’ wellbeing. The design reflects this vision.
Passengers arriving at the Shenzhen Airport Satellite Concourse experience natural light. The roof form is inspired by gently curving rivers. It guides passengers intuitively through the Concourse. Multi-level retail and food areas offer varied environments for passengers.
