“Imagine the roar of the crowd. Can you hear it?” That’s what echoes within the DHL Stadium, friends. It is more than just concrete and steel. The DHL Stadium is a stage for dreams.

Originally known as the Green Point Stadium during its planning phase. This iconic landmark sits nestled between Signal Hill and the vast Atlantic Ocean. Its location offers a stunning backdrop of Table Mountain.

The DHL Stadium officially opened its doors on December 14, 2009. The stadium was handed over to the City of Cape Town. This marked the beginning of its journey as a premier event venue.

Built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the DHL Stadium hosted numerous memorable matches. It held five first-round games. One second-round match. A quarter-final. And a semi-final. The world watched as football history unfolded right here.

But the DHL Stadium’s story extends beyond soccer. It’s a versatile space. The venue welcomes a diverse range of events. From rugby tournaments to international concerts, the stadium has seen it all.

The stadium became the home ground for WP Rugby and the Stormers in 2021. Since 2016 it is also a home ground for Cape Town City. The South Africa Sevens rugby tournament has been hosted here since 2015. The Rugby 7s World Cup was held here in 2022.

In 2020, history was made when the DHL Stadium hosted the sixth edition of Roger Federer’s Matches for Africa. This charity tennis event saw Federer and Rafael Nadal face off. The event broke the record for the highest attendance at a tennis match with over 51000 fans. It raised millions for children’s education in Africa.

The DHL Stadium has welcomed some of the biggest names in music. U2, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran. Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and Lionel Richie have all graced this stage. These performances have contributed to the stadium’s rich legacy.

With a seating capacity of over 60000, the DHL Stadium is Cape Town’s mega-event space. It’s a place where memories are made. A place where the energy is palpable.

It’s interesting to note that in 2022 the stadium exceeded its revenue target by 30%.

The stadium was known as Cape Town Stadium until 2021. The name changed to DHL Stadium due to a sponsorship agreement. This partnership has significantly boosted the stadium’s financial stability.

The DHL Stadium stands as a symbol of Cape Town. It shows the city’s ability to host world-class events. Its legacy continues to grow. Each event adds a new chapter to its already rich history.
