Sixty years of faith, hope, and community. That’s the legacy of Paróquia Santa Luzia e São Carlos Borromeu. Right here on Avenida Príncipe de Gales, this church stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Santo André. Paróquia Santa Luzia e São Carlos Borromeu isn’t just a building. It’s a living story, woven from the lives of those who have walked through its doors since its founding in 1960. The decree establishing Paróquia Santa Luzia e São Carlos Borromeu was signed on November 4th, 1960, marking a pivotal moment in the religious history of this area. The church’s diamond jubilee was celebrated in 2020, a testament to its deep roots in the community. But the story begins even earlier, in 1936. That’s when the original chapel, the precursor to the current Paróquia Santa Luzia e São Carlos Borromeu, was built and inaugurated on Christmas Day of the same year. This act of generosity by Charles Roberto Murray and Luci Murray, who donated both the land and the chapel, set the stage for decades of spiritual growth. The names of the patron saints, Saint Lucy and Saint Charles Borromeo, were chosen in honor of this couple, Luci and Charles. Paróquia Santa Luzia e São Carlos Borromeu also serves as the central hub for two other communities: São João Bosco in Valparaíso and Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Sacadura Cabral. These communities extend the reach of the parish, creating a network of faith that spans across different neighborhoods. Today, Paróquia Santa Luzia e São Carlos Borromeu continues to serve its community. It offers mass on Sundays at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm, providing a regular space for worship and reflection. Remember to check their website or call ahead to confirm the schedule, as times may change.
