Standing here, you might notice something unique about these benches that make up the Inflyttarna Installation. They all look different. Why? Because the Inflyttarna Installation, created by Johanna Karlin, is more than just a place to sit. It’s a testament to the diverse origins and journeys of those who have made Stockholm their home. The installation, inaugurated in 2023, is a collection of approximately 30 used park benches sourced from various locations across Sweden and Germany. Each bench, like the people who once graced their seats, carries its own history. Take a moment to appreciate the benches. You can find benches from a school in Öland, a playground in the Stockholm suburb of Kälvesta, and even benches painted in the signature blue of Bengt Johansson, an artist known for his work in Blomstermåla. These benches, gathered here in the heart of Stockholm, echo the city’s own narrative as a melting pot of experiences. Just like these benches have found a new home in Stockholm, so too have countless individuals from all walks of life. They came from different places, each with their own stories to tell, their own memories etched into the wood and metal. The Inflyttarna Installation serves as a reminder of the richness that diversity brings to a city. It’s a celebration of the journeys we all take.
