“A hidden fortress, now crowned with a modern sentinel,” the old storyteller began, his eyes twinkling as he gestured towards Vattentorn Solgård. “The Vattentorn Solgu00e5rd, or ‘Fornborgsreservoaren’ as it’s sometimes called, stands atop a hill steeped in history. This hill was once the site of Solgu00e5rd’s fornborg, an ancient hillfort dating back centuries.” He paused, letting the weight of the words settle. “Imagine, warriors guarding these heights, their eyes scanning the horizon for invaders.” The Vattentorn Solgu00e5rd, he explained, was built in the 1970s, directly on the site of this ancient fortress. The hillfort itself is vast, covering an area of 360 by 100-330 meters. Only fragments of the original walls remain, visible on the eastern side. The steep southern slope provided a natural defense. The fort’s purpose remains a mystery, possibly serving as a meeting place for legal proceedings or religious rituals. During the water tower’s construction, archaeologists investigated the site. Sadly, no artifacts were found. From Vattentorn Solgu00e5rd, the view is breathtaking, stretching out across Flemingsberg. Below, to the south, lies the Flemingsbergsviken wetland. Today, a few houses are nestled within the ancient fort’s boundaries, adding a touch of modern life to this historical landscape. Across the valley, another hillfort, Visättra fornborg, stands watch. It is a silent testament to a time long past, a reminder of the layers of history beneath our feet.
