It’s a simple, earthy ledge, tucked away on the side of a winding path. This unassuming spot played a pivotal role in Frodo and Sam’s perilous journey. Remember the scene? Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin scrambling to escape the dreaded Nazgûl. They dove off the road, seeking refuge in this very spot, the Lord of the Rings – Hobbit’s Hideaway. In the film, a large tree sheltered the hobbits. This prop, a masterpiece by Weta Workshop, was specifically built for the scene. It doesn’t exist in reality. Look closely. You’ll see the ledge, a little muddy perhaps, much as it appeared in the movie. Imagine the hobbits huddled here, fear gripping their hearts, the Black Riders’ presence looming large. The Lord of the Rings – Hobbit’s Hideaway in Victoria Park is just a short walk from a conveniently located car park near where Alexandra Road crosses Paterson Street.
