Sulzgries whispers stories of a simpler time. A time of knights and monasteries. A time when the Neckar River flowed through a landscape dotted with small villages. Imagine yourselves back in 1275. The widow of a knight, Wolfram, the Vogt of Rems, made a generous donation to the Mariental Monastery. This gift, a piece of land right here in Sulzgries, marked the first documented mention of this charming district. Sulzgries grew as part of Esslingen. It nestled in the northwest, bordered by Rűdern, Krummenacker, Serach, Neckarhalde, and Esslingen’s bustling center. Over the centuries, Sulzgries maintained its unique identity. This is more than just a suburb. It’s a community woven into the fabric of Esslingen. Today, Sulzgries is home to a variety of historical treasures. The Evangelical Church of Sulzgries stands as a testament to the district’s enduring faith. Constructed between 1837 and 1839, this late-classical church boasts a striking design by Friedrich Bernhard Adam Groß. It features a nave, a small annex in the southwest housing the sacristy, and a prominent tower rising from the roof. Inside, the church features galleries along the sides and a beautiful Kanzelaltar, a combined pulpit and altar. A modern organ, installed in 1973 by Richard Rensch, fills the church with vibrant melodies. Sulzgries also proudly houses the Schulmuseum, showcasing the history of education in the area. Three old schoolhouses, echoes of generations past, add to the district’s historical charm. And don’t forget the Laufbrunnen, a flowing fountain that has quenched the thirst of Sulzgries residents for centuries. The community spirit of Sulzgries thrives in the Bürgerhaus RSKN. Opened in 2009, this community center serves as a hub for local groups and clubs. It’s a testament to the collaborative spirit of Sulzgries and its neighboring districts, Rűdern and Krummenacker. Sulzgries is more than just a name on a map. It’s a vibrant thread in the rich tapestry of Esslingen. It’s a place where history whispers through the cobblestone streets and the laughter of children echoes through the centuries.
