Founded in 1996 as Word of Life A.M.E. Community Church the New Creation Gospel Center has a rich history. It began its journey at the Harmony Hall Regional Center in Fort Washington Maryland. Rev Dr Harrison E Benton Jr and Lady Beverly J Benton established the church. Their inaugural service was held on October 13 1996. Rev Benton’s first sermon focused on the church’s name. He emphasized that Christ is the Word and that the church should actively serve the community.
The church quickly grew. Two vital outreach programs were launched in 1997. One was a chaplaincy program at Fort Washington Hospital. The other was a visitation ministry at the Livingston Health Care Center. These initiatives provided essential services and pastoral care. The Helping Hands Outreach Ministry also started. It provided food baskets clothing and toys for families in need.
Word of Life Christian Academy opened in 1997. It was located on a 2.6-acre site in Accokeek Maryland. The academy later closed in 2003. The church then returned to its original location Harmony Hall Regional Center.
A significant change occurred in 2004. At the Washington Annual Conference the church was renamed New Creation A.M.E. Church. This reflected its new focus and direction. In 2007 New Creation moved to a new building at 9700 Old Allentown Road Fort Washington Maryland.
In 2014 Rev Dr Benton retired. Rev A R Young became the new pastor. He had previously served at St Paul A.M.E. Church in Dickerson Maryland. Under Rev Young’s leadership New Creation moved to its current location at 7007 Bock Road Fort Washington Maryland in October 2015. The New Creation Gospel Center continues to thrive. It serves as a beacon of hope and faith in its community. It stands as a testament to the dedication and vision of its founders and pastors. It’s a vibrant community center of faith.
