Do you smell that? That is the rich scent of brewing beer wafting from the Stralsunder Brauerei. Here at Stralsunder Brauerei, we celebrate a long and storied history. This brewery began its journey in 1827. Back then it was known as Stralsunder Vereinsbrauerei. It proudly served the surrounding area. That included the many resorts dotting the Baltic coast.

Demand grew steadily. The brewery constructed a new building along Greifswalder Chaussee. This new facility featured modern technology. It was even equipped with one of the first mechanical refrigeration units. After the Second World War, the brewery continued operations. It was reincorporated as a publicly owned Volkseigener Betrieb. However aging technology and difficulty acquiring quality raw materials took their toll. The brewery’s quality and profitability declined.

Following German reunification, the Nordmann Unternehmensgruppe purchased the brewery in 1991. They invested in modernization. They also created the new “Braugasthaus Alter Fritz”. In 2011, the brewery adopted its current name. This was a homage to the legendary German pirate Klaus Störtebeker. The Stralsunder Brauerei produces beer under the “Störtebeker” and “Stralsunder” brands. They also make mineral water and non-alcoholic beverages.

In 2005, the brewery produced 88000 hectoliters per year. It invested in new production capacity to meet rising demand. By 2013, production reached 110000 hectoliters. The brewery reached its most successful year to date in 2016. It produced and sold 180000 hectoliters. By 2020, that figure had climbed to 300000 hectoliters.

The Störtebeker Braumanufaktur is more than just a brewery. It is a North German institution. It stands for excellent specialty beers and a unique brewing culture. The brewery sees itself as connected to the art of brewing. They experiment to create new and flavorful specialty beers.

Consider taking a guided tour of Stralsunder Brauerei. You can participate in a beer tasting session with an expert. You could also enjoy a delicious menu paired perfectly with their beers. Some popular Störtebeker beers include Pilsener, Schwarzbier, Bernstein-Weizen, Roggen-Weizen, Hanse-Porter and “1402” Kellerbier.
