The Maqueta de la Ciudad de Trinidad isn’t just a pretty display. It’s a historically significant project. It took years of dedicated work. Lázaro Eduardo García Driggs along with the Bouza Miranda brothers poured their hearts into this. They meticulously measured photographed and studied Trinidad. They then used advanced computer tools to recreate the city digitally.
Then came the construction. The team chose durable materials like PVC and foam rubber for the trees. This is unusual. Earlier maquetas in Cuba were made of paper and cardboard. These were much more fragile. The Maqueta de la Ciudad de Trinidad is unique. It’s the first Cuban maqueta made with these resilient materials. It can be cleaned. Sections can even be removed and replaced.
The Plaza Mayor area was the most challenging part. It’s the heart of Trinidad. The church the convent and the parks are incredibly detailed. They recreated everything. Even the colors of the buildings are accurate.
The Maqueta de la Ciudad de Trinidad is housed in the restored Casa Frías. This 19th-century building is itself a historical treasure. It’s now the Center for Interpretation of the Heritage of Trinidad. The restoration was extensive. They even restored the Italian tile floor. The wall decorations and the woodwork on the doors and windows were painstakingly renewed.
