“Did you bring your foam finger?” That’s what I ask before we explore the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. This complex is home to the University of Maryland’s field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams. It reopened in December 2023 after remodeling. The Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex is now a state-of-the-art facility.

These upgrades will aid in creating the consummate student-athlete experience. The Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex puts Maryland front and center. It is now one of the top facilities in the entire country. The upgraded facility grew from 5500 square feet to nearly 18000 square feet.

The new Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex includes larger separated locker rooms. These are for Field Hockey and Women’s Lacrosse student-athletes. They also feature spacious team rooms with all-new technologies.

An increased Sports Medicine room is another great addition. It has new rehabilitative and recovery equipment. This includes hydrotherapy space. The Tricia and Caitlin Green Hall of Champions recognizes the championships and success of both programs. A relocated fan entrance allows for ease of access to the complex seating areas. There is also a second-floor addition with coaching offices and meeting spaces.

Let’s shift gears to another field hockey and lacrosse venue. We can compare it to this one. Imagine Cooper Field at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. It is home to the Hoyas’ field hockey, lacrosse, and football teams.

Originally, it was known as Harbin Field. Later, it became Multi-Sport Field. The stadium got its current name in 2015. This followed a $50 million donation from Peter and Susan Cooper. The donation funded much-needed renovations.

These renovations occurred during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. They involved expanding the capacity from 2500 to 3750. Permanent restrooms and concessions were added. Upgrades were made to the press box and locker rooms as well.

Cooper Field is located in the middle of the Georgetown campus. The Georgetown neighborhood is one of the best in D.C. There are numerous restaurants ranging from casual to luxurious.

Parking is conveniently available in a garage. It is right at the stadium. Parking in this garage is free on Sundays. Other days it costs between $15 and $25.

Tickets are free for field hockey games. There are no concessions available. It is recommended to go on a Sunday if possible. This avoids paying high prices for parking. The Georgetown campus is one of the most beautiful in the country. The stadium offers sweeping views of historic buildings.

While Cooper Field may be large, the fans are loud and passionate. They create a great atmosphere. The fans are a mix of family, friends, students, locals, and Hoya fans.

Both the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex and Cooper Field offer unique experiences. Each venue provides a place to enjoy the sports of field hockey and lacrosse. They both contribute to the athletic landscape of their respective universities.
