Here at St Paul’s Anglican Church Carlingford, history and faith intertwine. This is a story of sandstone, dedicated service and community spirit. We will explore the origins of this cherished landmark.

St Paul’s Anglican Church Carlingford began with a vision in 1847. William Mobbs donated land to build a church. He was a forward-thinking man. The church was designed by architect William Mobbs. It is a testament to Victorian Academic Gothic style.

Consider the scene in 1850. The Right Reverend William Broughton consecrated the newly built St Paul’s Anglican Church Carlingford. The small sandstone church featured lancet windows. A bellcote adorned the structure. A chancel provided a sacred space. Later, a vestry was added.

Richard Marshall played a vital role. He quarried and dressed the stone on his property. His property was near Jenkins Road. His craftsmanship is evident in every stone.

Imagine children learning within these walls. St Paul’s Anglican Church Carlingford served as a schoolhouse until 1872. Before dedicated premises were constructed the church took on an additional role. David Thomas and George Molster may have been head teachers here.

The legacy of St Paul’s Anglican Church Carlingford extends beyond its architecture. It is a story of dedicated clergy. Rev Turner served in 1860. Rev Oscar William Charles Cooper served as curate from 1932 to 1936. Rev Alfred John Dyer followed from 1940 to 1941. Rev Charles William Hammond was curate in 1940. Rev Roy Hamilton Bootle served from 1943 to 1948. Rev Charles Kemble Hammond served from 1949 to 1952. Rev John Roderic Lindsay Johnstone was curate from 1941 to 1942. Each cleric contributed to the church’s spiritual guidance.

In 1978 St Paul’s Anglican Church moved to Vickery Ave & Moseley St Carlingford NSW 2118, Australia.

Note that in 1980, the original church building was sold. The congregation moved to a new church. The new church retained the same name. It is now located on Moseley Street.

Though the congregation moved the original St Paul’s Anglican Church Carlingford remains a landmark. It stands as a reminder of the past. Its heritage-listed status ensures its preservation. It is a testament to faith and community.
