Parafia Imienia Najświętszej Maryi Panny w Warszawie-Międzylesiu

In 1920, a seed of faith was planted in the heart of Warsaw-Międzylesie. The Sisters of the Franciscan Family of Mary established their home for the chronically ill in Kaczy Dół, as Międzylesie was then known. This act of compassion became a cornerstone for the Parafia Imienia Najświętszej Maryi Panny w Warszawie-Międzylesiu. Local residents began attending services in the sisters’ chapel, finding solace and community within its walls. Even during the tumultuous years of 1944-1951, the spiritual life of the area continued to flourish under the guidance of Bishop Władysław Miziołek. The small chapel served as a beacon of hope. Then, in 1963, the chapel officially became a rectory, led by Father Mieczysław Mosak. The Parafia Imienia Najświętszej Maryi Panny w Warszawie-Międzylesie, as we know it today, began to take shape. The community grew, exceeding the capacity of the small chapel. In 1985, Cardinal Józef Glemp formally established the parish, drawing members from the parishes of Our Lady Queen of Poland in Warsaw-Anin and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Warsaw-Zerzeń. The need for a larger church became evident. In 1993, land was acquired, and plans for a new church building were developed by architect Krzysztof Mycielski and engineers Stefan and Halina Drewiczewscy. Construction began the following year. The artistic vision of Dariusz Hyc and Mateusz Żarodoń brought the interior to life. On September 12, 1997, Bishop Kazimierz Romaniuk blessed and laid the cornerstone of this very church. The Parafia Imienia Najświętszej Maryi Panny w Warszawie-Międzylesie stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and community. This sacred space was entrusted to the Divine Mercy on April 19, 2009, continuing its legacy of service and spiritual growth in the heart of Międzylesie.
