A whisper of history hangs in the air. The Konzer Moselbrücke stands before you a testament to time and resilience.

This magnificent railway bridge spans the Mosel River near Konz. It connects vital railway lines the Saarstrecke and Obermoselstrecke with the Trierer Weststrecke. Trains from Trier to Wasserbillig and Luxembourg frequently use it. The Kreuz Konz stop is conveniently located on the bridge’s approach.

Construction of the Konzer Moselbrücke began in 1855. It wasn’t completed until 1875 a lengthy process reflecting the engineering challenges of the era. Sadly World War II brought destruction. The bridge was rebuilt between 1946 and 1953 a testament to post-war recovery. Its total length is 217 meters. It boasts six river pillars and two abutments. Interestingly the foundations of pillars 1 2 and 4-6 were laid in 1855. The foundation of pillar 3 was replaced in 1953 highlighting the ongoing maintenance required for such a structure.

The bridge was originally designed with double tracks for the approaching lines and the connection to Trier-Zewen. But changes came in the 1990s. When one track was removed a clever solution was implemented. The space was repurposed into a cycle path creating a modern amenity alongside the historical structure. This transformation seamlessly blends the past and present.

Throughout the 1990s the Konzer Moselbrücke underwent numerous inspections and repairs. This ongoing maintenance ensures that this crucial piece of infrastructure remains safe and reliable.

Today the Konzer Moselbrücke continues to serve its purpose as a vital railway link. It is also a beloved cycling route offering stunning views of the Mosel River. This beautiful bridge is more than just a piece of infrastructure. It’s a living symbol of the enduring spirit of the region its history and its future.
