The journey to Fishponds Lookout is an adventure itself. The moderate track from the Blue Gum Walk intersection is about 300 meters. It will take you around seven minutes to walk. The path soon bends left. You will pass along the top of an unfenced cliff. It winds down some steep carved rock steps. A hand rail is provided for safety. The rocky track leads along the side of the valley. Then it crosses a timber foot bridge.
This isn’t just a simple walk in the park. It is graded 4 out of 6. It means a hard track. But don’t let that deter you. The challenge is part of the allure. The gradient includes short steep hills and gentle hills with steps. Around 350 meters is very steep. However, there is also flat ground to give you a breather. The track is well-formed. Directional signs will guide you along the way.

A walk from Hornsby Train Station to Fishponds Lookout is about 2.15 km. It should take around 41 minutes. Follow Quarry Road down the hill. Turn onto the Great North Walk. Pass through Berowra Valley Bushland Park. Continue onto the Blue Gum Walk. Then follow the signs to Fishponds.
