The field house also serves as a crucial practice space for the football and women’s volleyball teams. One of the most remarkable features of the Wesley Brown Field House is its retractable “Magic Carpet” AstroTurf football field. This 76,000-square-foot marvel can be rolled out over the 200-meter indoor track, transforming the space in a matter of hours. When the turf is retracted, the track, with its hydraulically-controlled banked curves, takes center stage, alongside three permanent basketball courts. The field house isn’t just about competition. It’s also about strength and conditioning. The 6,500-square-foot weight room, one of three such facilities at the academy, supports numerous teams, including cross country, soccer, track, golf, sprint football, volleyball, water polo, and women’s lacrosse. The building’s design is equally impressive, with box trusses spanning over 200 feet and a graceful curve towards the water. The glass façade, facing the Severn River, not only provides stunning views but also meets anti-terrorism force protection guidelines.
