The Oeffinger Scillawald. Its story began on June 24, 1972. This was when it was officially designated a nature reserve. Later, in 1981, it gained further protection as a protected forest. This status was renewed in 2004. The forest is sometimes called the “Oeffinger Scillawald”.
This special place covers 11.8 hectares. It lies on the right bank of the Neckar River. Specifically, it is west of Oeffingen. The Oeffinger Scillawald is a “Klebwald”. This means it is a wooded steep slope by the Neckar.
As you walk through the Oeffinger Scillawald, notice the trees. Maples and ashes dominate the landscape. Also look down. In spring, the forest floor bursts into color. Early bloomers like larkspur and blue stars create a stunning display. The blue stars give the forest its name. “Scilla” is the botanical name for blue stars.
The Oeffinger Scillawald is part of a larger network of protected areas. To the northwest and north, the Oeffinger Rain and Weidachtal landscape protection area adjoins it. To the southwest, the Neckar bank and the adjacent slope area offer further natural beauty. The nature reserve is also part of the Lower Remstal and Backnanger Bucht FFH area. This highlights its importance for habitat conservation.
