Corpus Christi wasn’t built overnight. Its construction was a testament to the generosity of local residents. Their contributions made possible the beautiful church we see today. The building opened its doors on July 18 1937. Bishop Francis Hennemann blessed it less than eight months after the foundation stone was laid.

The official consecration came later on March 19 1946. Bishop Hennemann presided assisted by Mgr o’Rourke and several other priests including a young Fr Owen McCann. He would later become a Cardinal. Relics of Saints Innocenta and Amandus were enshrined in the altar stone. Twelve crosses and candleholders were affixed to the walls adding to the church’s sacred atmosphere.
