How about a journey back to 1294? That’s when the first written mention of Měšice appears. This village in the Prague-East District has a story to tell.

Měšice, a municipality in the Central Bohemian Region, boasts a population of about 2,200. The name Měšice comes from the personal name Měch. It means “the village of Měch’s people”.

Měšice sits in a flat landscape. The Central Elbe Table surrounds it. The brook LÍbeznický potok flows through Měšice. It feeds two fishponds in the village center.

In 1434, a stone fortress was built in Měšice. Later, between 1767 and 1775, the Měšice Castle was constructed. The railway to Všetaty was built from 1871–1872. But the connection with Prague wasn’t complete until 1888.

The main landmark is the Měšice Castle. It features Rococo style with Neoclassical elements. Inside you will find remarkable sculptural and painterly decorations. The castle grounds include an English landscape garden. It is filled with rare trees. The oldest lightning rod in Bohemia is here. It was installed in 1775. Today, a private medical facility resides in the castle. It is the Centre of Integrated Oncological Care.

Měšice is located on the railway lines Prague–Mělník and Prague–Mladá Boleslav. This makes it easily accessible. The village covers 4.43 square kilometers. It sits 203 meters above sea level.

Měšice offers a blend of history and nature. From its early mention in 1294 to its Rococo castle, the village provides a glimpse into Bohemia’s past. Imagine walking through the English garden. Picture the lightning rod protecting the castle. The castle stands as a testament to time. Měšice is more than just a village; it’s a living story.
