Step into the captivating world of Herrängens gård. This isn’t just any farm. It’s a living testament to centuries past a place where history breathes. Herrängens gård’s roots stretch back to the 17th century. Initially a humble farmstead known as Isbergatorpet it sat under the shadow of the grand Långbro gård. Can you imagine the quiet life of the original inhabitants? Their daily routines their dreams their fears?

In 1747 a significant shift occurred. Councilman Gustaf Johan Ruth became the permanent tenant. He renamed the property Herrängens gård. Ruth constructed a new main building. He replaced the old structure on the very meadow that gave the farm its name. This marked the beginning of Herrängens gård’s transformation. It shifted from a simple farmstead to a summer retreat for wealthy Stockholmers.

For years Herrängens gård remained a peaceful haven. It was a place of summer escapes and leisurely gatherings. However the tranquil existence was broken in 1788. Customs Director Märten Tawelin purchased the estate. A date etched on the facade 1788 serves as a silent reminder of this pivotal moment. The purchase included the meadow and a portion of Långbro forest.

Through inheritance and sales Herrängens gård passed through many hands. Ferdinand Teodor Schlyter acquired it in 1865. His heirs later sold it to Ludvig Åsbrink. Then in 1901 wholesaler Johan Edvard Lignell purchased the property. He was a visionary. He started subdividing the land for residential development. This changed the landscape around Herrängens gård dramatically.

After Lignell’s death his heirs formed AB Billiga Tomter in 1909. They continued the development project. Finally in 1930 Stockholm city bought the remaining portions of the estate. The city acquired the farm itself in 1948. This acquisition preserved a significant piece of Stockholm’s history.

Herrängens gård’s main building boasts original 18th-century tile stoves. During renovations in 1958 hidden original wallpapers were found. The design was reprinted as the Herrängens wallpaper and adorns the main hall. The main building is a stunning example of how the past and present intertwine.

The southern wing retains its original rich facade decorations. The northern wing sadly burned down in the 1960s. A new wing was built maintaining the original proportions. The buildings were extensively renovated in 2015. This restoration revealed the original colours in collaboration with the Stockholm City Museum. Today Herrängens gård remains a significant landmark. It’s a treasure standing tall a legacy of the past. It’s a place of beauty history and remarkable stories. A place I hope you’ll remember long after you’ve left.
