Hidden among Prague’s sprawling suburbs lies Na Hutích a place steeped in history. Na Hutích isn’t just a name on a map. It’s a neighborhood nestled between Kyje and Hloubětín. It’s a place where the past whispers through the foundations of old houses. Imagine the families who built their lives here generations ago. Their stories are woven into the very fabric of Na Hutích.

Na Hutích’s history stretches back centuries. The area once housed bustling quarries. These weren’t just any quarries. One was known as Bílý Kůň. This quarry became a fascinating network of tunnels. It served as storage for fruit and vegetables after its closure. Traces of the quarry’s past still remain. Remnants of equipment and even two bat colonies can be found in the tunnels. Sadly much of this unique area is now inaccessible. Development has filled some parts with concrete.

Na Hutích also boasts a rich industrial past. A coal mine named after Saint Anthony of Padua operated here. It was active from 1767. The mine yielded more than coal. Pyrite was extracted too. This was used for sulfuric acid and alum production. However the mine’s life was short-lived. Financial difficulties brought its operation to an end. The mine’s location was determined by the area’s unique geological features.

Today Na Hutích is a vibrant blend of old and new. Developers continue to shape the landscape. New apartment buildings and row houses are springing up. A notable addition is the Kyje-Hutě residential complex. This was built around 2009. The area is easily accessible. The Vysočanská radiála and Prague Ring Road offer easy connections. Public transport is also readily available with bus lines 186 and 201 serving the area. The Rajská zahrada metro station is a short distance away.

Na Hutích offers more than just residences. The area has two small parks. One includes a small pond. The other sits between Babylonská and Splavná streets. These parks are ideal for recreation. They feature a playground minigolf and multi-functional sports areas. Sadly some areas remain neglected due to unresolved ownership issues.

The Central Vocational School of Gastronomy and Entrepreneurship stands proudly. Locally known as Pramen it’s the tallest building in the area. It houses a hotel a restaurant student dormitories and accommodation. An old schoolhouse still remains. It serves as a clubhouse for the local minigolf course.

Na Hutích is a place of contrasts. A place where the whispers of the past blend seamlessly with the dynamism of the present. A neighborhood that embodies Prague’s complex and multifaceted history. It is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. A place where stories continue to unfold.
