St Kevin’s began as an outstation church of Epping Parish. That was back in 1919. Imagine the small, dedicated community that first gathered here.
In June 1929 St Kevin’s became its own parish. This marked a significant step for the local Catholics. The community was growing.
The parish school construction started in 1925. Parramatta Mercy Sisters were in charge. They were dedicated to nurturing young minds.
Fast forward to 1962. Fr Jeremiah O’Sullivan envisioned a larger church. He wanted it to accommodate the growing number of parishioners. Tentative plans were drawn.
However it wasn’t until October 16 1994 that the current St Kevin’s Church was dedicated. Most Reverend David Cremin DD blessed it. Monsignor John Lyne was the Parish Priest at the time.
Monsignor Lyne recognized the hard work of Fr John Haseler. He also thanked the parishioners for their support. Their dedication made the impressive church and hall complex a reality.
St Kevin’s stands as a testament to faith. It shows commitment and community spirit. The church offers regular services. Saturday Vigil is at 5:30pm. Sunday Masses are at 8:00am, 9:30am, 12 noon and 6:00pm.
The 12 noon Mass includes English and Cantonese. Weekday services are also available.
St Kevin’s also provides opportunities for reconciliation. Fridays offer confession from 4:00pm to 4:45pm. Saturdays provide confession from 4:30pm to 5:15pm.
Many groups meet regularly. These include the Holy Rosary. The Men’s Prayer Group meets on Tuesdays at 7pm. An Italian Prayer Group meets Wednesdays at 12:30pm. Eucharistic Adoration is on Fridays at 4pm. There is a First Friday Devotion every month at 4pm. A First Saturday Mass and Devotion is every month at 9am. Exposition and Benediction occur every first weekend of the month at all Masses.
Today St Kevin’s is more than just a church. It is a hub for community activities. It has a primary school: St Kevin’s Catholic Primary School. It also has links to Marist College Eastwood.
