The ancient stones of Robegano whisper tales of centuries past. Robegano a village nestled within the larger comune of Salzano. It stands as a testament to resilience. It has endured wars and shifting landscapes.

Robegano’s history stretches back to Roman times. Its land was part of Altino’s agricultural system. Straight roads like Via Della Rimembranza and Via Scarlatti still reflect the Roman grid. Later it thrived near the strategic Via Mestrina. This connected Noale to Mestre. The proximity to the Marzenego river further boosted its growth.

By the 12th century Robegano was a significant village. More prosperous than Salzano itself. Documents mention it as early as 1154. A Guarniero da Robegano even witnessed a legal act in 1163. A fortified castle once stood here. Built by the Tempesta family of Noale it passed to the Da Robegano family. They originated from Treviso. This castle eventually fell into disrepair. It was strategically demolished by the Venetian Republic after their defeat in the War of the League of Cambrai.

The heart of Robegano is its church. Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Graces and Saints James and Christopher. It began as a chapel. A miraculous healing in 1534 spurred construction of a larger parish-sanctuary. Work finished in 1603. It became an independent parish in 1611. The current terracotta facade reflects Renaissance architecture. It dates to 1856. Additions in the 1880s and 1899 expanded the church to its current size. The cupola crowns the structure. It was added in 1925. Paintings depict the miracle of 1534. They were created by Ludovico Mayer between 1896 and 1897.

Robegano’s lively spirit continues. Its festivals reflect its rich Venetian heritage. Carnevale brings masked processions. The Festa di Primavera recreates a medieval atmosphere. The Sagra dell’Assunta celebrates the Assumption of Mary. The Festa del Baccalà focuses on the traditional salted cod. The Festa dea Sardea is a celebration of the sardine. A local favorite.

Robegano is more than a village. It is a living tapestry. Woven from threads of history. It’s a reminder of Venice’s broader story. A place where the echoes of the past still resonate. In the present day. A testament to enduring spirit and community.
