Tucked away in the Ono Valley, we find the remnants of Ganay Yehuda. Ganay Yehuda translates to “Gardens of Judah.” It was named after the biblical figure Judah, the fourth son of Jacob and Leah. He was also the founder of the Israelite Tribe of Judah. Ganay Yehuda was established in 1950. Imagine this valley, once vibrant with the life of a moshav, now absorbed into the larger town of Savyon. This transition happened in 2003. The land Ganay Yehuda, and Savyon for that matter, sits upon has a long history. It once belonged to the Palestinian village of al-‘Abbasiyya. This village was depopulated during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. While Ganay Yehuda may no longer exist as a separate entity, its name and its story echo the complex and layered history of this region. One notable figure connected to Ganay Yehuda is Yoav Cohen, an Israeli Olympic windsurfer born in 1999. Although the moshav no longer exists, its legacy lives on in the stories of those who lived here and those connected to it.
