St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church

On a crisp autumn day in 1923, the first Mass echoed through the newly built walls of St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church. This marked the beginning of a century of faith in Scarborough. St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church has been a cornerstone of the community ever since. It has offered solace, celebration, and a shared spiritual home for generations. The original church building, standing proudly on Danforth Avenue, witnessed countless baptisms, weddings, and funerals, becoming intertwined with the lives of its parishioners. The church wasn’t just a place of worship. It was a hub of social activity, a place where families celebrated milestones and sought comfort during difficult times. In 2023, St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church celebrated its centennial anniversary. The year-long festivities included a special New Year’s Eve Mass with Bishop Robert Kasun, a Palm Sunday performance by the Victoria Scholars choir, and a visit from the St. Michael’s Choir School Junior Choir. A highlight of the centennial year was the visit from Archbishop Francis Leo, who celebrated Mass and met with parishioners. A parish picnic, a Centennial Dinner and Dance, and a special school Mass further marked this momentous occasion. St. Dunstan’s has undergone physical transformations over the years. The current church is the third structure on the site. Improvements include a new ceramic tile floor in the sanctuary and a carved wooden panel for the main altar. New signs also welcome visitors to this historic landmark. Throughout its history, St. Dunstan’s has remained true to its core values of faith, community, and service. As St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church embarks on its second century, it carries with it a rich legacy. This legacy continues to inspire and uplift the community it serves on Danforth Avenue.
