In 1948, Kurt Peters, a dancer and dance educator, founded the Deutsches Tanzarchiv in Hamburg. After 17 years, in 1965, it found its new home in Cologne – just a few steps from where we stand now. The archive is more than just a dusty collection of old photos, costumes and journals. It’s a treasure trove of knowledge. The Deutsches Tanzarchiv documents dance history with dedication, collects the stories of its masters and makes dance knowledge accessible to everyone.
