Why did Stockholm need the Tallkrogens vattenreservoar? Let’s journey back to the 1950s. Stockholm’s southern suburbs were booming. The demand for a reliable water supply soared. The city needed a solution, a reservoir. The Tallkrogens vattenreservoar, completed in 1957, became that solution. This isn’t your typical towering water tank. The Tallkrogens vattenreservoar sits directly on the ground, a markreservoar. Two large, circular concrete containers hold a combined 35,100 cubic meters of water. The highest water level reaches 61.05 meters above sea level. This reservoir, along with others like Högdalsreservoaren, Sätra vattentorn, Stuvsta vattentorn, and Nybohovs vattenreservoar, played a crucial role. They ensured sufficient water pressure and volume for the expanding southern districts. The water itself journeys from the Norsborgsverket treatment plant, located by Lake Mälaren. Interestingly, the city planned for this reservoir much earlier. A 1934 city plan designated this spot, the highest point in Svedmyraskogen, for “public purpose.” It took over two decades for this vision to materialize into the Tallkrogens vattenreservoar. Even these sturdy structures require upkeep. In 2013-2014, the reservoir underwent significant renovations. Stockholm Vatten keeps the water flowing, ensuring a constant supply to the city. So, next time you enjoy a glass of Stockholm water, remember the Tallkrogens vattenreservoar. It’s a vital part of the city’s infrastructure.
