The school was initially located on the Waterloo Estate. This land was owned by Captain William Underwood, a veteran of the Battle of Waterloo. He named the estate in honor of the famous battle. The original school building was a simple structure. It had a central hall and two classrooms on each side, with a porch and cloakroom. The school was first known as Wynberg Ladies Seminary. Over time, Wynberg Girls’ School grew. In 1934, a separate Junior School building was completed. As the student population reached 600, the high school and junior school were formally separated. Wynberg Girls’ Junior School now stands as a testament to its rich history. Today, Wynberg Girls’ Junior School thrives. It has around 711 learners and 78 staff members.
