Can a building whisper secrets of faith and community? St. Timothy Anglican Church certainly does. Right here on Sheppard Avenue East, this brick structure, painted in a rich red, holds more than just Sunday services. St. Timothy Anglican Church pulses with the life of its community, evident even on a quiet weekday.

St. Timothy Anglican Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a hub of activity, a testament to the enduring power of faith and fellowship. Established in the 1960s, St. Timothy’s catered to the burgeoning communities of Henry Farm, Forest Manor, McNicoll, Brian Drive, and Don Valley Village. Initially, services were held in the local school’s general-purpose room. Imagine squeezing 250 people into a space designed for 200! The community’s dedication was palpable from the start. In 1966, after a spirited community dance and a meticulously conducted census, the parish officially formed. Father William O’Brien became the first resident pastor, setting up the first rectory on Deepglade Road.

St. Timothy Anglican Church’s growth was rapid. The congregation quickly outgrew the school, moving first to Woodbine Junior High’s cafetorium, then to George Vanier School’s auditorium. Finally, in August 1969, they moved into their very own church building. Think of the collective sigh of relief and joy as parishioners first entered their spiritual home. The music from their original organ, affectionately nicknamed “Old Bertha,” must have sounded especially sweet that day. Even now, decades later, St. Timothy Anglican Church continues to thrive. The church website lists a variety of events, from Sunday worship services (available via Zoom, too!) to bible study groups and even a Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner.

The journey of St. Timothy Anglican Church echoes the journey of faith itself: a continuous evolution, marked by growth, adaptation, and unwavering community spirit. St. Timothy’s stands as a symbol of resilience, a place where faith takes root and blossoms, where community gathers and thrives.
