“What makes Kodaira Shiritsu Kodayara Elementary School so special?” I often hear visitors ask. Today I will tell you a story about this wonderful place. Kodaira Shiritsu Kodayara Elementary School is a public elementary school in Kodaira City. It is located in Tokyo. The school opened its doors on April 1 1980. That was Showa year 55.

Let’s step back in time. Imagine the school’s early days. The area was growing quickly. More families moved in. The need for a new school became clear. Kodaira Shiritsu Kodayara Elementary School was the answer.

In 1982 the school added a pool. The pool opening ceremony was held on November 18. Five years later in 1987 a science experiment and observation pond was built.

The school celebrated its tenth anniversary in 1989. A special ceremony was held on April 1. They planted a commemorative tree. Kodaira Shiritsu Kodayara Elementary School continued to grow.

In 1999 the school marked its twentieth anniversary. Another celebration took place. The school continued to improve its facilities. In 2000 a computer room was completed with six computers. By 2002 the computer room was upgraded. It then had twenty computers.

Kodaira Shiritsu Kodayara Elementary School cares about its students’ safety. In 2004 the pool was renovated. This included new showers and flooring. In 2009 earthquake-resistant reinforcement was added. The school building and gymnasium were renovated too.

The school celebrated its thirtieth anniversary in 2010. A commemorative ceremony marked the occasion. From 2014 to 2017 the school promoted the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

Kodaira Shiritsu Kodayara Elementary School even has its own mascot since 2017. In 2019 the school celebrated its fortieth anniversary. A special anniversary event included a ceremony a gathering and a song.

During the COVID-19 pandemic the school temporarily closed. It reopened on June 15 2020. The school focuses on four educational goals. These are healthy children considerate children resilient children and joyful children.

The school has about 60 students per grade. This results in about 350 to 400 students in total. The school’s attendance area includes Nakajima-cho Sakae-cho and part of Ogawa-cho.

One parent said the teachers truly care about the children. They create a trusting relationship between students and teachers. The school newsletter is published every month. It shares the school’s goals and activities.

The school also offers extracurricular activities. These include farming and off-site lessons. School safety is a top priority at Kodaira Shiritsu Kodayara Elementary School. The school encourages community involvement. Local people help children cross the street safely.
