Ever wondered where the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church found its first consecrated home in Virginia? It’s right here at Saint Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church, Ashburn. Founded in 2005, Saint Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church of Northern Virginia faced a challenge. For years, the congregation lacked a permanent place to call home. They moved from place to place always hoping to find a place for worship and ministry.
Then came a momentous occasion in December 2012. Saint Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church purchased its very first church located in Ashburn. This was an amazing gift during Christmas time. The parish celebrated this significant achievement.
In February 2013, after seven years of perseverance, Saint Mary’s NoVA finally had a home. The community rallied together. They dedicated time and effort to clean and prepare the new church for its first services.
Fast forward to May 2014. Saint Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church, Ashburn was officially consecrated. H.G. Zachariah Mar Nicholovos led the consecration. It was a joyous occasion. The consecration marked a new chapter for the parish.
The church wasn’t just about worship. Saint Mary’s NoVA was a hub of activity. Take June 1, 2014. The Marth Mariam Vanitha Samajam organized a 5K Bike Walk-a-thon. Proceeds went to Missionaries of Charity, DC.
Today Saint Mary’s Indian Orthodox Church continues to thrive. You can attend Saturday Vespers at 6:30 PM. Or join the Sunday worship.
