Nestled amidst the serene landscapes southwest of Schönkirchen, Lower Austria, lies the Zuckermantelhof. The Zuckermantelhof, once known as Zuckermantel or Schönkirchner Hof, has a rich history tied to the Schönkirchen Castle. During the tumultuous years of World War I, the Zuckermantelhof provided refuge for South Tyrolean war refugees. Records from 1931 indicate Gustav and Wilhelm Löw as owners of the Zuckermantelhof. By 1938, the Zuckermantelhof was home to a farmer, according to Austrian address records. Today, the Zuckermantelhof has embraced a new chapter. While its agricultural lands continue to be cultivated, the estate itself has been transformed into an equestrian center. In 1988, Andreas Kisling, the owner of Zuckermantelhof, embarked on a pioneering venture into biodiesel production. His innovative work, using resources like rapeseed, earned him the Innovation Prize of Lower Austria and the Republic of Austria in 1992. The Zuckermantelhof continues to stand as a testament to its evolving history, from sheltering refugees to embracing innovative technologies.
